Lately, my blogs have been deep. Like… “grab your Bible, your journal, and possibly a tissue” deep. So today, we’re going lighter. No emotional heavy lifting. Just vibes, coffee, and a little self-awareness.
Let me introduce you to me – the girl who used to cry over everything and is now, quite honestly, emotionally out of tears. I don’t even have a dramatic sob left in me. At this point, if something sad happens, I just blink slowly, sip my coffee, and whisper, “Wow. That’s wild.” Growth? Or emotional exhaustion? The jury is still out. ☕😂
I grew up street smart. Hood-raised. Diverse-people-trained. Which basically means I can walk into a room of CEOs in heels and confidence… and five minutes later be sitting on a curb talking life with someone who’s been through absolute chaos. And somehow, both conversations feel natural.
It’s one of my favorite things about myself.
My childhood trained me in survival mode. I learned how to “read the room” before I learned long division. I could tell if you were safe in three seconds or less. Tone, posture, energy, eyes – my internal radar was always on.
To this day, I still do it.
I trust nobody.
But somehow… I love everybody.
Make it make sense.
Here’s the ironic part – I’m also a total girly girl in the middle of all this. Give me pretty shoes, good skincare, cozy vibes, and a cute outfit, and suddenly this street-smart, emotionally aware, room-reading human is just living her best soft-life moment. 💛👠
I’m happy-go-lucky but jaded. Warm but observant. Soft-hearted but highly aware. I’ll compliment your shoes while silently clocking your emotional temperature. It’s a gift. It’s also mildly exhausting. 😌
People tell me all the time, “You’re so easy to talk to.”
What they don’t realize is I spent my whole childhood becoming someone who had to be.
But here’s the funny, beautiful, Jesus-filled part: God didn’t just heal my past – He redeemed my personality. All that awareness, all that sensitivity, all that heart? He turned it into connection instead of survival.
So now I get to laugh. I get to be light. I get to enjoy people instead of analyze them. (I still analyze them). I get to walk into rooms and not just scan for safety – but scan for who might need kindness.
These days, I still read people like a book. I just do it with grace instead of guard up.
And honestly? That feels like the softest kind of victory.
So here’s your reminder, beautiful human: You don’t have to stay in survival mode forever. Healing lets you put the armor down and still keep the wisdom.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go refill my coffee and pretend I don’t still emotionally profile everyone at Target 🤍😂
