Strength and determination
I read the book, ‘Beyond The Spotlight’. It’s about a young girl name Ava born in Jamaica and her journey through her upbringing as a child. The book entails her mental, emotional and physical struggles, not feeling loved by family and due to the “class system” racism based on skin color that still exist today. These things had a negative impact throughout her early years. Throughout the reading of the book, it taught me about determination, perseverance, love, compassion and most important not to give up on your dreams in life, The road was rocky for Ava but those qualities (listed) were achieved by her despite the odds. I loved her fight from her childhood years until she migrated to the United States for a better opportunity and have a new lease on life, (a ‘fresh beginning’, so to speak). Even though she got married, had two children and then divorced, she was able to juggle parenthood, went back to college, worked and moved up the corporate ladder in the United States. She became one of the first black women at her brokerage company to upper management, despite her struggles and was very determined to beat the odds. She has empowered herself, her audience through motivational speeches as a voice of reasoning that made others (especially women) self evaluate too their own struggles to never give up on their hopes and dreams of family, friends and religious beliefs.
