There are some losses that don’t feel small… even if the world might try to make them that way.
This is one of them.
My heart is shattered.
Yesterday, I had to say goodbye to my girl – my Miney. And I don’t quite have the words yet for the silence she’s left behind. The house feels different. Quieter. Like something sacred is missing.
She wasn’t “just a cat.”
She was my girl.
Miney had the softest presence. Gentle, observant, always near but never demanding. She had those big, beautiful green eyes that seemed to look right through me – like she understood more than words could ever say. And that little pink nose… I can still see it so clearly. I can still feel her.
She had her favorite spots – the blankets, the corners of the couch, the places where she felt safe. And I think that’s what gets me the most… she felt safe. She trusted me. She rested in my presence. She let me be her home.
What a gift that is.
She was there in the quiet moments. The everyday moments. The ones that don’t seem big at the time but somehow become everything once they’re gone. The way she would curl up and sleep so peacefully. The way she’d look at me like I was her whole world.
And maybe, in her own little way… I was.
I keep thinking about how precious she was. Not just in how she looked, but in how she loved. Pure. Simple. Uncomplicated. There was no striving, no pretending – just presence. Just comfort. Just love.
And now, there’s this ache.
A deep, heavy ache that sits in my chest and reminds me with every breath that she’s no longer here. I miss her more than I can put into words. I miss seeing her. I miss reaching for her. I miss knowing she’s close.
Grief is a strange thing. It shows up in waves, in quiet moments, in the spaces where love used to be expressed out loud. And right now, that grief feels overwhelming… because my love for her was real.
And it still is.
But even in the heartbreak, I know this- Miney was loved.
She lived a life where she was cared for, held, comforted, and safe. She knew warmth. She knew belonging. She knew what it felt like to be someone’s.
And I will carry that forever.
I will carry her.
My sweet girl, thank you for choosing me, for trusting me, for being mine.
You were precious. You are precious.
And you will always have a place in my heart.
I love you, my girl. I love you, Miney.
